WEDDING: Mendiola/Fletes: Michelle Mendiola Fletes, daughter of Armando Mendiola and Delia Torres, and Angel Fletes III, son of Angel Fletes II and Patty Maynes, were married Feb. 23, 2013 at St. Benedicts Catholic Church.

Layla Jade Moore

Layla Jade Moore was born March 6, 2013 at Kaiser Hospital San Jose to Stacey Kunze and Michael Moore of Morgan Hill. She weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces.

HONORS

Mimi Arvizu    

Mimi Arvizu is Gavilan College’s Employee of the Month for January 2013. She is the director of the Information Systems department and has been with Gavilan College since 1979.

Mimi is responsive, proactive and a great role model for her department. Her customer service skills and kind and gentle way make her an easy person to collaborate with. She never says, “No, we can’t do it,” and always follows up to verify resolutions. She has surrounded herself with an amazing staff and they reflect her philosophy on teamwork and assistance to others.

Christopher Delgado

Christopher Delgado, of Gilroy, was named to the Dean’s List for the Fall 2012 semester at Loyola Marymount University. This recognition is given to students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher while completing 15 semester hours or more. He is studying engineering.

Joe Ziebron

Joe Ziebron (San Benito High School, 2004) is a second year student at the University of California, Davis, Law School. A 2008 graduate of UC Santa Barbara, Joe has a bachelor’s degree in political science. He is externing with the Sacramento County Public Defender’s Office and preparing for the Giles Sutherland Rich Moot Court Competition taking place in March. He is the UC Davis Graduate Student Association’s Police Department liaison, a member of the National Lawyers Guild and a member of the American Constitution Society, and serves as the UC Davis chapter’s president of finance.

Ashlyn Willson

Ashlyn Willson, from Gilroy, has earned placement on the Berklee College of Music’s Dean’s List for the fall semester of the 2012 academic year. To be eligible for this honor, a full-time student must achieve a grade point average of 3.4 or above; a part-time student must achieve a grade point average of 3.6 or above. The Berklee curriculum focuses on practical career preparation for today’s music industry.

Ross Ballantyne

Ross M. Ballantyne, of Morgan Hill, was named to the Dean’s List at Boston University for the fall semester. Boston University is the fourth largest independent university in the United States, with an enrollment of more than 29,000 students in its 17 schools and colleges. The university offers an exceptional grounding in the liberal arts, a broad range of programs in the arts, sciences, engineering, and professional areas, and state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and research.
