Jairo Saul Carranza Jr. was born May 11, 2012 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to Edie Marie Coronado and Jairo Saul Carranza of Gilroy. He weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces.

Abrianna Robles
Abrianna Simone Robles was selected as a recipient of the Northern California Scholarship Foundation’s scholarship. Abrianna, of Live Oak High School, will receive $8,000 a year for four years, for a total of $32,000.
Ashley England
Ashley R. England, from Morgan Hill, received a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University New Orleans’ College of Humanities and Natural Science, and graduated Cum Laude. The university awarded 944 degrees at its undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremony at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on May 12.
James Lafuente
James Lafuente, a senior art major from Gilroy, was named to the Culver-Stockton College dean’s list for the spring 2012 semester. Dean’s list students have earned between a 3.5 and 3.99 GPA and were enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours, with no grade lower than a C.
Culver-Stockton College is a private, liberal arts college located in Canton, Mo.

Mary Thatcher, a sophomore studying secondary education from Morgan Hill, was recently listed on the 2012 spring semester dean’s list at the University of Portland. Students need at least a 3.5 grade point average to be eligible for the dean’s list.

Nina Baio, a senior studying social work from Morgan Hill, was recently listed on the 2012 spring semester dean’s list at the University of Portland. Students need at least a 3.5 grade point average to be eligible for the dean’s list.
Harmony Padilla
Harmony Padilla, a senior sociology major from Gilroy, has been named to the spring 2012 dean’s list at McMurry University. To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must have maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average while taking 12 or more credit hours.
Offering a diverse academic curriculum to more than 1,400 students, McMurry University is a small Christian liberal arts school in Abilene, Texas.
Rigoberto Garcia-Arroyo
Army Reserve Pvt. Rigoberto Garcia-Arroyo has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
Garcia-Arroyo is the son of Rigoberto Garcia of Gilroy and Sahamira Arroyo of Dacula, Ga. and a 2011 graduate of Gilroy High School.
