Authorities are searching for a Hollister teenager in connection with the shooting of a 22-year-old man last week on Western Court.

David Bossi Del Real, 19, is suspected of shooting the man during an altercation, the Hollister Police Department reported. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Jose Avalos, 22, of Hollister, was flown to a Bay Area hospital after being shot in the stomach about 5 p.m. Feb. 20 in front of a Western Court residence.

Del Real’s whereabouts remained unknown Thursday, said officer Rosie Betanio, a spokeswoman for the Hollister Police Department.

Police reported that Del Real has friends and relatives in the Hollister and Los Banos areas. He is considered armed and dangerous, the department said.

Supervisor Jaime De La Cruz, whose district includes Western Court where the shooting occurred, was walking the neighborhood shortly after the incident speaking with neighbors.

De La Cruz said the shooting shows the need for more officers and deputies on the streets.

“We need to ramp up more law enforcement to protect the public,” De La Cruz said.

Officers arrested the suspect’s older brother, Martin Antonio Del Real, 23, in connection with the shooting shortly after the reported crime.

Officers and sheriff’s deputies patrolled the Villa Hermosa neighborhood after the shooting.

Neighbors lined Central Avenue, watching the police investigation unfold and the helicopter land at the Calaveras School campus to take Avalos away.

Both Del Real brothers have been charged with attempted murder. Martin Antonio Del Real is being held at the San Benito County Jail.

The shooting of Avalos was the fourth attempted murder in Hollister this year and part of back-to-back shootings last week. Gunfire missed Hollister police officers and a sheriff’s deputy the night of Feb. 19 in a supermarket parking lot on McCray Street. No one was injured in the shooting, and authorities do not have any suspects.

Anyone with information about David Bossi Del Real’s whereabouts is encouraged to call the Hollister Police Department at 636-4330.
