Salinas – San Benito couldn’t equal Gilroy’s league-high 13 qualifiers to the Central Coast Section wrestling meet as Josh Ramirez lost Tuesday to Salinas’ Eddie Edeza in a match to determine the final berth at 173 pounds.

Ramirez missed Saturday’s Tri-County Athletic League tournament Saturday due to illness so he was pitted against Edeza – the fourth place finisher – as a way to decide the fourth automatic entry to CCS.

The loss leaves the Haybalers with 12 wrestlers qualified for the CCS tournament, which takes place Friday at Independence High and Saturday at Overfelt.

Early in the match, Ramirez made an initial move but couldn’t complete it.

“He took a shot and didn’t finish it and (Edeza) got the takedown,” San Benito coach Matt Olejnik said.

Edeza was twice warned for stalling and Ramirez failed to make a move to earn points and get a win.
