San Benito County will be well represented today at the 2007 CIF State Cross Country Championships in Fresno, set to kick off at Woodward Park this morning.

Courtney Allen of San Benito High School and the Anzar Hawks boys team will seek both individual and team titles in what will be the final race of the season.

Allen, a junior at SBHS, recently clocked a 19:02 at the Central Coast Section Cross Country Championships at Crystal Springs in Belmont. Outside of teams Carlmont and Salinas, Allen’s time was good enough to earn the fifth and final individual spot to the state meet. She finished 10th overall.

Joining Allen from the CCS will be Kathleen Miller of Gilroy, Jennifer Clarke of Oak Grove, Jean Feng of Monta Vista and Emily Evans of Homestead.

The Division I girls race is slated for 9:05 a.m.

Additionally, the Anzar Hawks will trek to Fresno in search of a state title. The Hawks, who were undefeated and ranked No. 1 in Division V entering the CCS meet, took first place with 72 points in Belmont, edging out Redwood Christian’s 83.

In that particular race, Anzar was led by freshmen Aaron Hsia-Coron, who took seventh place in 17:14. Miles MacKinnon followed in eighth place with a time of 17:19, while Colin Parsons came in 10th place in 17:27. Alex Sanchez and Isreal Parra finished in 23rd and 24th, respectively, after each recorded an 18:29.

Junior Christian Heath timed 18:32, good enough for 27th, and Adam Wilkenson finished in 35th place after clocking 19:27.

The Division V boys race will begin at 9:40 a.m.

Woodward Park is a 5K course, and is run on hard packed dirt, as well as grass and asphalt, according to the CIF handbook.
