Sheldon Clayton Pride died Friday, Dec. 12 in his Eatontown, N.J. home of pancreatic cancer. He was 70.

He was born in Santa Monica, Calif., and resided in Springfield, Vicenza and Hollister before moving to Eatontown in 1988.

He was employed as a professional engineer in New Jersey and California for Property Solutions, Edison. He worked as a civil service employee for the Department of the Army at Fort Ord, Calif., Vicenza, Italy, and at Fort Monmouth. He started his career at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Lompoc, Calif.

He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho. He attended St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown, and was active in the Malvern Retreats.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sheldon Fleetwood Pride, son Chris Mares and sister Nancy Proctor.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Geraldine Roy Pride; mother Vera Pride McVey of Boise, Idaho; sons and their spouses Shannon Pride of Hollister, Keith Pride of Lancaster, Calif., Tom and Carla Mares of Kona, Hawaii, Alan Mares of Eatontown, and Mark and Michelle Mares of Union; daughters and their spouses Joy and Ernesto Ruiz of Hollister, Timothy and Sherry Smith-Kennedy of Maui, Hawaii, and Ennio and Jill Mares-Mosele of Vicenza; brother Wallace Pride of Logan, Utah; sisters Lois Nelson of Cathalament, Wash., and Jacqui McCellan of Boise; and grandchildren Daniel, Naomi, Eddie and Tyler Ruiz, Anthony Ruiz-Pride, Natasha Pride, Danielle Mares, Michael Paul Castro, Ashley Smith, Christie Smith, Tristan, Brittany and Vanessa Mares, Derick and Kevin Mosele; and great-granddaughter Anna Lina Mares.
