A San Benito County sergeant helped to save a woman using CPR while at a conference in Visalia, according to announcement from the sheriff’s office.
Detective Sgt. Rick Uribe was in the lobby of a Marriott Hotel in Visalia for a coroner’s training conference at about 10 p.m. Tuesday when he noticed an elderly woman who had collapsed.
According to the announcement:
A crowd formed around the woman, who was European and was here on vacation. Persons in the crowd were yelling for help and Sergeant Uribe ran to her aid. He immediately began to assess her condition and found her to be void of a pulse. He immediately began to administer CPR to the female and continued his efforts until Visalia Fire Department arrived on scene. Visalia Fire personnel aided the woman and she was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
We learned this morning that the woman did, in fact, survive her medical emergency. Her survival is due, in part, to the rapid response and heroic actions taken by Sergeant Uribe. The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office is extremely proud of Sergeant Uribe. His selfless act in the midst of a life-threatening situation displays his strong character and that of our agency as a whole.
The cause of the woman’s collapse is not immediately known, nor is her current condition.
