Shirley R. Prather

Shirley Prather passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Morgan Hill at the age of 81.

Shirley was born and raised in Portland, OR, and received a Bachelors and Masters Degree from Oregon State and Stanford Universities.

She was a high school teacher for many years throughout Oregon. Shirley received a Fulbright Scholarship and spent the summer of 1966 studying and traveling in Ethiopia. In 1973, she earned a Doctorate Degree in Education from the University of Washington which led to her becoming an assistant professor and Director of Student Teaching at Portland State University in Oregon.

Married to Loy Prather for 33 years, they moved to Morgan Hill in 1979.

Upon retiring, an avid animal lover, she enjoyed showing her various breeds of dogs at American Kennel Club shows.

She was a dedicated volunteer of the Furry Friends Foundation and served on the Board of Directors and was a Team leader for over 25 years.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Loy Prather, brothers Richard and Loren Wyss, sister-in-law Judy Wyss, all of Portland, Oregon. Nieces and nephews, Emily, Jennifer, Isabel, Ned, Stacey and Chris.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 11, 2011, at West Hills Community Church, 16695 DeWitt Ave., Morgan Hill from 2:00-4:00 P.M.
