Shirley Smith lost her battle with cancer at home on 6, September 2009.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 56 years, William Smith of Gilroy, her three daughters Linda M. Smith, Constance M. Dollahon, and Allison M. Smith, her son-in-law Marvin Dollahon, and her three grandsons Timothy Dollahon, Joseph Dollahon, and David Dollahon.

Shirley loved to travel to various countries. In retirement, Shirley and William traveled extensively all over the world. She also loved to garden, do Tai Chi, and was an avid volunteer. She volunteered her time and energy to various causes such as Girl Scouts, Vision Literacy, and her church, the United Methodist Church of Gilroy.

Her relationship with Girl Scouts began when she was eight years old and continued until her death. She served as a Girl Scout troop leader to all three daughters, as a leader trainer for the Santa Clara Girl Scout Council, and she was involved with South County Girl Scouts for 45 years.

Her time as a tutor for Vision Literacy was filled with various students. Some of them needed assistance with writing English, some needed help with reading, and she helped them all.

At her church, she would help with fundraisers and rummage sales. She got involved with a Bible Study group of older ladies. Everyone that she was involved with will miss her very much.

In lieu of flowers, her family asks that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society.

A memorial service will be held on September 16, 2009, at the Methodist Church in Gilroy at 2:00 P.M.
