Hollister – San Benito landed six players on the all-Tri-County Athletic League boys soccer teams, including two first-teamers.

Senior forward and goalkeeper Eddie Trujillo and junior forward Efrain Espinoza both were honored with first-team selections.

Trujillo began the season as a forward and still finished as the team’s leading scorer with six goals. But he made a midseason switch to goalkeeper and was sparkling, particularly in a 1-0 win over Palma where he made eight saves during the final 12 minutes of action to preserve the upset win.

Espinoza tied for second on the team with two goals, including the lone tally in a 4-1 home loss to eventual Central Coast Section Division I champion Gilroy.

Defense dominated the second team for the Haybalers with senior defenders Jesus Rios and Christian Mercado both being selected. Junior midfielder Jose Granados and senior defender Jose Carlos Vasquez received honorable mention recognition.

Alisal’s senior defender Pedro Morales beat out three other nominees to win the league’s MVP award. The team captain earned the honor for his all-around consistency at multiple positions and for anchoring a first line that gave up just eight goals.

Other MVP nominees included: Gilroy senior midfielder Humberto Pineda, Salinas sophomore midfielder Isaias Abonce and Alvarez junior defender Gabriel Munoz.
