After playing three games in three days, the Anzar boys soccer team improved to 2-1-1 Wednesday with a 2-1 win over KIPP Collegiate in San Juan Bautista. It was the Hawks second-consecutive win after defeating Pinewood School 3-0 Tuesday.

It’s been a busy week for the Hawks, who hosted Valley Christian on Monday. Anzar battled the Warriors to a 2-2 tie in San Juan Bautista. Anzar, though, held a 2-0 lead early before allowing two second half goals to Valley Christian.

Alejandro Jarra got the scoring started early in the contest, putting the ball in the net on a free kick in the 10th minute. Less than 10 minutes later, Basillo Mejia scored on a penalty kick to lift Anzar to an early 2-0 lead.

Valley Christian answered back in the second half, scoring goals in the 51st and 61st minutes to earn the tie.

On Tuesday against Pinewood, the Hawks got off to another fast start. Anzar took a 2-0 lead in the first half. The scoring started thanks to a goal from Sergio Gonzalez in the 21st minute. Mejia added his second goal in two days in the 34th minute to extend the Hawk lead.

In the second half, Gonzalez gave the Hawks the 3-0 lead, scoring in the 65th minute. In the shutout win, keeper Ismael Torres finished with five saves.

On Wednesday, the Hawks needed to make a comeback for the first time all week. KIPP scored only eight minutes into the game but Anzar eventually answered back.

Trailing for the first time all week, Mejia scored his third goal in three days in the 55th minute to even the contest at 1-1. Less than 10 minutes later, Guillermo Banuelos, with an assist by Mejia, scored to give Anzar a 2-1 lead.

Behind five saves from Torres, Anzar held onto the victory.

The Hawks busy week continues at 3:30 p.m. Friday against St. Francis Central Coast Catholic High School in San Juan Bautista.
