A back-and-forth battle between Pacific Collegiate and Anzar Thursday resulted in a 2-1 victory for the visiting Pumas, who remain undefeated in the Coastal Athletic League.

Bryce Flocks and Daniel Toorani each deposited goals for PCS, which improves to 2-0-1 in the CAL, 3-4-2 overall.

The Hawks, meanwhile, remain in search of their first victory. The boys soccer team has lost six straight contests to open the season, although their previous three games against York, Trinity Christian and Marina were all postponed to a later date due to inclement weather.

Thursday’s league matchup against Pacific Collegiate was Anzar’s first game since Jan. 14. The Hawks are 0-2 in the CAL, 0-6 overall.

After the Pumas took a 1-0 advantage in the 15th minute — a header off a corner kick — Anzar responded when Alexis Sicairos dribbled down from midfield to knot the game in the 20th minute.

Pacific Collegiate pocketed what would be the game-winner just seven minutes later, however. The Hawks were called for tripping inside their box, and the Pumas took advantage on the ensuing penalty kick.

“We pretty much shut them down for the rest of the game,” Anzar head coach Jeremiah Martinez said. “We had some good opportunities but just couldn’t score.

“It could have gone either way.”

Anzar will hit the road on Wednesday when it travels to Pacific Grove for a match with the Breakers. Kick-off is 3:30 p.m.
