According to the rankings, San Benito is the highest ranked newcomer to the Fab 50.
There are 13 other softball teams from California in the top 50, including nearby Archbishop Mitty of San Jose, which at 12-2 is currently ranked No. 37 on the list.
This is at least the third top-50 national ranking the Balers’ softball team has enjoyed in recent years.
In 2007, following a 32-3 season in which it won its second straight Central Coast Section title, San Benito finished with the No. 50 ranking by Rivals.com. Then, to open the 2008 season the following year, the Balers garnered the No. 23 ranking in the StudentSports.com Fab 50 national softball rankings.
Wednesday’s announcement is San Benito’s first national top-50 ranking since the 2008 season.
At 12-0 overall, the Balers are also 4-0 in Tri-County Athletic League play. The team will open the second half of its league schedule on Thursday when it will travel to North Salinas.
First pitch is 4:30 p.m.
