After earning a bye in the first round, the top-seeded San Benito Lady Balers will open the Central Coast Section Division I Championships in Saturday’s quarterfinal round against Tri-County Athletic League rival Salinas.

First pitch is 10:30 a.m. on Field 3 at the Salinas Sports Complex.

The No. 9 Cowboys (13-11) edged No. 8 Palo Alto 3-1 in eight innings on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals, and will square off against San Benito for a third time this season.

The Lady Balers (22-4) previously defeated Salinas twice already this season, including a 5-1 win on March 30 and a 3-0 victory on April 28.

It will be San Benito’s first game since last Thursday, when it defeated Gilroy 5-4 in nine innings to earn a share of the TCAL title with Notre Dame.

The winner of Saturday’s matchup will advance to next week’s semifinal round, and earn a chance to play either No. 4 Wilcox (18-10) or No. 12 Gunn (19-9). The semifinals will take place at PAL Stadium in San Jose.
