Soledad M. Cota died Sunday, Dec. 7 at College Oak Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sacramento. He was 89.

She was born in Sonora, Mexico and lived in San Benito County from 1953 to 2002. She was educated in Mexican schools.

She was a member of Teamsters and Warehousemen Local No. 890 of Salinas.

She liked sewing and crocheting. She was a happy person who liked to sing and dance.

She was a cannery worker for Fairview Packing company for 30 years before retiring.

She is survived by her children and their spouses Jess M. and Linda Cota of Gilroy, Angie and Vern Painter of Hollister, Richard and Ortie Cota of Gilroy, Mary and the late Richard Reyes of Sacramento, Hope Ramos of Washington, Josie and Ray Ruiz of Sacramento, Annett Scarlett of Sacramento, Ralph Cota of Salinas and John Cota of Delano; and brothers Marcos Martinez and Luis Martinez. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ricardo C. Cota who died in 1993, brothers Sylvester Martinez, Jessie Martinez and Frank Martinez, sisters Helen Lopez and Connie Chavez and many other family members.

A visitation will be held at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 11 between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Family and friends will leave the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. to proceed to Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum for funeral services beginning at 1 p.m.

Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation in care of the mortuary chapel.
