Soledad Z. Flores aged 94 years passed away Feb. 1 at Santa Rosa Convalescent Hospital in Santa Rosa.
Mrs. Flores was a native of Jimenez, Tamps, Mexico and came to the United States at 10 years old. She was very proud that she taught herself how to read and write English. While she resided in San Benito County from 1944 until 1959 she was a sorter at the Hollister Canning Company. She moved to Santa Rosa in 1959 after she retired from Hollister Canning Company. It was there she began working at the Sebastapol Cannery which canned apples. While in Hollister she was very active in Sacred Heart Parish. She loved gardening and growing flowers, and as often as she could, she liked to travel. The 49ers was her team and Joe Montana was her man her family said. She felt very fortunate that she survived the 1918-1919 flu epidemic which took the lives of many of her family members.
She was the wife of the late Angelo T. Flores, a native Californian who was born in San Jose.
Survivors are her children Angelo T. Flores Jr. and wife, Vickie, of Santa Rosa, Merced L. Brannan of San Jose, Olga B. Goddard-Williams and husband, Donald, of Winsor and Margaret Quejada and husband, Robert, of Hollister. She has 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive as Soledad was the last of nine brothers and sisters.
As per her wishes arrangements have been made for private cremation at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Crematory 870 San Benito St. with interment of her remains next to her husband Angelo at Calvary Cemetery. A private memorial mass is planned for Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Donations are preferred to the Sacred Heart School Foundation c/o Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home.
