Dear Editor:

I had the honor and privilege to attend the San Benito High School graduation ceremony. I felt so happy; tears ran from my eyes to see my granddaughter graduate. She is the last of my five grandchildren, and I was very happy for all the graduates.

I feel they have no idea how lucky they are to grow up in this country. They have the opportunity to educate themselves. This is the start of a healthy and prosperous life.

You are in a great country. You cannot fail if you believe in the truth. Never be afraid to speak the truth or be witness to the truth. The truth is the most powerful weapon in life. Lies only last until the truth shows up. Truth is happiness. Lies are nothing but trouble. This world is changing; people tend to lean more toward revenge than toward peace. If you learn how to live with the truth, I’m sure your world, your tomorrow, will be a much better place to live.

Education is important. God bless every one of you. At 76 years of age, I must admit I have struggled through life due to lack of a formal education. I only have four years of school from my native country. You might ask the question, “what is this old man with four years of school trying to teach us?” Answer: 68 years of hard work. If you like life and what you do, you can learn a lot.

Experience and common sense help make it easier to navigate. Even at my age, I am still learning. You can be bored if you lose interest. Always look ahead for something to do. That is the secret to a good life.

If I said I never lied, I wouldn’t be telling the truth. With my experience, I can tell you with the truth, life is much more pleasant. You will sleep better. Be a good citizen, be involved, listen to the news, read the papers, listen to our leaders (politicians) so you can judge for yourselves who you like and who you don’t. I never fail to vote. You also must vote. Crooks are easy to detect. It is a bad name, but it is the name they inherit by not being honest.

I hope my granddaughter and the graduates read this letter and give it some thought. They may find some truth here to help them in life. Remember, we make our plans and God makes his plan and sometimes in life it’s not the way we wanted it.

Just reading the Free Lance on June 11, with all the questions and answers, I find Anthony Freitas to be a good leader. He has a leadership backbone and is not afraid to speak from the heart – a quality inherited from his father, who I knew very well. In my opinion, he would be a great supervisor.

Good luck to you all and remember the truth works.

That is only my opinion.

Amadeu Lima,

Hollister
