Springtime blooms in South County
Spring sure has sprung out here in South County these days. Just
take a quick drive out to Hwy. 25 and you’ll see what I mean. The
wildflowers are in full bloom, the grass is green and the snakes
are out on the road. Unfortunately, this time of year we get a lot
of wind that dries the grass out real quick. We sure could use a
nice April shower right about now. Keep your fingers crossed that
we get one soon!

Many birthday wishes go out to several folks this week. Cynnie O’Connor celebrated her birthday on the 30th and she celebrated by having her annual birthday barbecue at the O’Connor Ranch. A few of those enjoying the day included the McFarland Family, Kyle and Tina Plunkett, Kanani, Chase and Clay Barbree and Kek and Lucy Flores. John Brewen celebrated another birthday last week as well. A small party was held for him at his shop and a few of those celebrating with him included the Sabin Family, the Brewen Family and the Harbin Family. Tracie Eggleston celebrated her birthday over the weekend with her kids and her husband Mike over in Monterey. Josh Richardson celebrated last Sunday with a big birthday party at his home with lots of family, friends and classmates from Bitterwater School. Happy Birthday, everyone!

Vern and Jo Ann Scattini had houseguests for a few days last week as Vern’s sister Gracie and her husband Volney arrived from their home in Arizona. They spent several days with Vern and Jo Ann and were able to visit with old friends George and Sandy Rose and Johnny Joe and Darlene Margin. They also attended a branding with Vern and Jo Ann at the Meek Ranch before heading back home last Sunday.

The Salinas Valley Fair is right around the corner. The junior fair board hosted a successful Pedro party last Friday night at the fairgrounds and the Miss Salinas Valley Fair contest will take place on April 11. The fair kickoff dance will be held on April 18. All entries for both livestock and non-livestock will be due this Friday, April 3rd.

Everyone in the valley wishes Virginia O’Connor well after the total loss of her home on Monday morning. Her wood stove caught the roof on fire and burned her house to the ground. Thanks to the quick response of neighbors and CalFire, a few cherished items were able to be saved. I’m sure Virginia could use some thoughts and prayers at this difficult time, not to mention any help anyone might be able to offer.

Have a great week and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at we********@ao*.com with any news you’d like to share.
