We had some beautiful days out here in Bitterwater last week. I
think spring has finally arrived. The wild flowers are finally
starting to bloom all over South County and all the cattle are
really starting to look good and feel good too. Looks like it’s
going to be another good year.

Birthday wishes go out to Bitterwater Tully students Katie Donham and Rosario Estrella. Also celebrating birthdays last week were Andy Barrington and Brandi Schmidt-Garza. Happy Birthday to you all.
Bitterwater Tully School 4th-8th grade students participated in the San Lorenzo Middle School Track Meet last Friday at the King City High School track. The kids once again made Bitterwater proud as they did fantastic against several other much larger schools.
Participating from our school included: Natalie and Jeanine Madson, Kassie O’Connor, Taylor Jo Hurley, Thomas Veysey, Mathew Castillo, Braden and Marissa Donovan, Sierra Jo and Buddy Sans and Rachel Diaz. Each of the kids placed or won in many of their events, all of them bringing home ribbons. Buddy won the shot put for his age group while Sierra Jo won the 440, 220 and the long jump. She ended up winning the high point in her group as well. Now she can’t wait to run track in high school. Just another activity for us to have to drive to! Bitterwater’s number one supporters, Johnny Joe and Darlene Maggini were on hand to cheer on the Badgers once again. Thanks for all your support Johnny Joe and Darlene.
The King City Riding Club hosted the annual Grady Lafferty Memorial Junior Rodeo last Saturday at the Rava Arena at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds. Many South County kids participated in the event. Some of those included: Blane and Blaire Strohn, Cheyenne Rey, Sierra Jo, Buddy and Brody Sans, Taylor, Twyster and Tatum Hurley, Chase and Clay Barbree, Ralphie Rianda, Brooke and Mason Rianda, Bailee Nelson, Tucker Bennett, Hannah Johnson, Chesney Brouhard, Caleb and Lauren Johnsen, Lauren Davis, Dakota and Colton Stoughton, Cody Hood, Cole McFarland, Joey and Ashlee Jansen, Katie Harris, Dreux Clark and Megan Cheney.
Congratulations to Mason Rianda for winning the 6 and Under Boys All-around Championship for the second year in a row, and to Brody Sans for winning the Calf Riding.
It was a long day as there were over 150 kids competing throughout the day. The event started at 8 in the morning and by the time we left at 9 that night, they still had a few more events to go. Many thanks to the King City Riding Club for producing this event. They did an outstanding job and all their hard work is very much appreciated.
Many community members stopped by to take in the events. Some of those enjoying the action included: Ralph, Joy, Mark, Matt and Meghan Flores, Ed Copley, Allan, Teri and Bransen Umbarger, Kuulei Flores, Lynette Hurley, Vern and Jo Ann Scattini, June and Steve Rianda and Vickey and Billy Brinnan, just to name a few.
In between events, my mom and I were running back and forth between the rodeo arena and the baseball field as Buddy was playing ball that day as well. We watched a few innings, then went back to the arena to catch Brody getting on his bull. It was a very hectic and tiring day, but well worth it all. Buddy pitched all 6 innings for a shut out. It was very exciting and we were very proud of him.
The annual San Benito County 4-H pancake breakfast was held last Sunday in Hollister. Attending from South County included Braden and Marissa Donovan, Tina and Kayla Plunkett and Tim, Erika and Cal Williams.
Home from the hospital and recovering nicely from knee surgeries are both Nessen Schmidt and Kuulei Flores. Kuulei got home last Wednesday and was at her grandson Chase’s baseball game that night while Nessen got home on Thursday and was at the junior rodeo on Saturday. Obviously they are both doing well and glad to be home.
