Birthday celebrations abound in South County

It sure was busy in South County last week. It seems like there are times when nothing is going on and then there’s times when everything is happening on one weekend! There were plenty of birthdays celebrated last week and a horrible tragedy in King City as well.

Birthday wishes go out to John Nino, Nessen Schmidt Jr., Katie Donham, Natalie Madson and Megan Jones. John Nino celebrated the big 5-0 last Saturday afternoon with a big birthday barbecue at his home. Some of those celebrating with John included: the Nino family (and there are plenty of them!), Tim and Kate Hearne, Bill and Penny Barbree, Ed Copley, the Sabin Family, the Brewen Family, Mary Ann Mallory, Barney and Irene Bray, Francis and Becky Giudici, Cynnie and Kassie O’Connor, Randy and Susan King, Fred Flook, Vern and Jo Ann Scattini, Billy and Karen Whitney, Peggy Casey, Salvador and Lupe Mendoza, Bill and Robin Rist, Rick, Maureen and Katie Harris and John and Jane Wooster, just to name a few. Besides almost being blown away by the wind, it was a great party for a great guy. Happy Birthday, John!

Nessen Schmidt Jr. celebrated his 30th birthday the same day as John but Ness celebrated by having a trail ride at the Schmidt Ranch, followed by a barbecue and bonfire. We stopped by the party, but they were still out on the ride so we didn’t get to visit with any one, but by all indications and reports, it was a doozy of a party! Happy birthday, Ness!

Katie Donham and Natalie Madson both celebrated their 16th birthdays last week as well.

Billy and Karen Whitney hosted a mountain oyster feed last Friday evening at their home at the Peachtree Ranch. Some of those enjoying the evening included: John Brewen and Lou Harbin, Jeremy and Melissa James, Mike and Brandi Garza, Andy Barrington, the Hurley Family, Sans Family, Brewen Family, Nessen Schmidt, Sabin Family, John and Jane Wooster, Garrett Crocker, Pat and Michelle Castillo, Kenny and Valerie Reed, Vern and Jo Ann Scattini and the entire Topo and Peachtree Ranch crews. Vern and Jo Ann got a good joke pulled on them when they left that night, so next time you see them, be sure to ask them how they got into their truck to go home. You’ll get a good laugh out of it.

My condolences go out to the Cortes and Silva families on the loss of their boys in last week’s horrible, senseless murders that took place in King City. It sickens me to think there are people in our small community that have such little value of life. People can only speculate whether or not this was gang related, but whether it was or it wasn’t, two young boys lost their lives.Their parents lost their sons, and their siblings lost a brother. Gang related or not, all five of the victims were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Good luck to the King City Police Department in their search for these murderers; the sooner they are off the streets, the better off we are. I have faith that they will bring these murderers to justice, just as they captured the low lifes that shot the young girl and her brother at the soccer game a few months ago. The police can only work with what they have, so, if you ever see anything suspicious around town, make sure you call it in. If they don’t have the community’s help, they’ll never be able to clean up our town.

Have a great week, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at we********@*ol.com with any news you’d like to share.
