Mudslides were reported along Southside Road on Thursday night. Here, a loader Friday morning removes dirt from the hillside near the migrant camp area. Look back for more.

Southside School will be closed Tuesday due to weather-related safety issues in the area, according to an announcement on the school’s website.
Southside School opened its doors to students Monday but only on an “hour-by-hour” basis following class closures Friday due to mudslides on Southside Road, said Superintendent and Principal Eric Johnson earlier in the day.
“We’re here today because they’ve got the road open,” Johnson said regarding Southside Road. “They’re still working on the road, trying to keep the mud from going over.”
Apparently the issues weren’t alleviated enough to keep school open Tuesday. The second closure in three school days is “due to safety concerns on Southside Road,” according to the school website.
The school was the only one in the county to shut its doors Friday, though administrators at other sites talked with staff members about closing procedures after a large rain storm swept the area starting Thursday afternoon.
Last week was not the first time heavy rains have caused Southside School to close its doors. About five to seven years ago, the district weathered a similar situation, Johnson said.
This year, parents were notified of the closure through an automated phone call, the school website, Facebook pages and team leaders in each classroom.
