The San Benito County Office of Education is hosting its annual countywide spelling bee this month.
The preliminary round of the county competition for fourth through sixth graders will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ladd Lane Elementary School. The preliminary round of the competition for seventh and eighth graders will be Wednesday at the same location.
The championship competition for fourth through sixth graders will be held March 1 at Ladd Lane. The same competition for seventh and eighth graders will take place March 2 at the same campus.
Hollister Rotary will donate a Fire Kindle to the first-place winner in each age category. For more information, contact Kim O’Connor at (831) 207-9050.
Then next month, the San Benito County Office of Education is hosting its countywide science fair. Projects must be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. March 21 at the Veterans’ Memorial Building. Judging begins at 6 p.m.
The judging will continue at 9 a.m. March 22, if necessary. There will be an open house the same day from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and an awards assembly from 7:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. After the awards ceremony is complete, students can take home their projects.
