After outscoring Christopher and Gilroy 132 to 14 over the past two weeks, the Balers will attempt to win its third consecutive Monterey Bay League game Friday when they travel to play Alvarez.

With three lead changes in the final four minutes against Aptos, the San Benito boys water polo team’s season ended in dramatic fashion Tuesday in the second round of the Monterey Bay League playoffs Wednesday in Hollister.

The San Benito girls golf season ended Tuesday in the Central Coast Section championship in Carmel Valley. This year, the Balers sent only one golfer - Emiley Palmquist - to the championship round.

Behind 152 yards rushing from senior Gabriel Hatcher, the Anzar football team improved to 2-4 on the season with a 56-24 win over Alma Heights Christian on Friday. The victory gives the Hawks one more win than they had during their debut season a year ago.

Coming off a rousing 70-0 win over Gilroy High in the 2012 Prune Bowl, the Balers will hope to keep that momentum going in its first ever game against Gilroy’s Christopher High.

In a warm-up for the upcoming Monterey Bay League playoffs, the San Benito girls volleyball team continued to improve its play in the final weeks of the season, sweeping a league opponent for the third consecutive match Tuesday in Hollister.

With a 7-0 win over Notre Dame on Tuesday, the San Benito girls tennis team clinched a second-place finish in the Monterey Bay League’s Gabilan Division. The finish sent the Balers into a playoff with the top team from the Pacific Division on Thursday.
