–– A new champion was crowned in the NCGA/CIF Girls High School
Championship on Monday at Stockton GCC.
St. Ignatius demonstrated balance throughout the lineup to claim
the title and end the reign of dominance of St. Francis.
St. Francis saw its winning ways come to an end after shooting a
462 to place fourth. The Sacramento-area high school had won the
tournament since its inception in 1998.
STOCKTON –– A new champion was crowned in the NCGA/CIF Girls High School Championship on Monday at Stockton GCC.
St. Ignatius demonstrated balance throughout the lineup to claim the title and end the reign of dominance of St. Francis.
St. Francis saw its winning ways come to an end after shooting a 462 to place fourth. The Sacramento-area high school had won the tournament since its inception in 1998.
St. Ignatius shot 448 to win by three strokes in the format that takes the four best scores out of six.
The Wildcats were led by Elaine Harris with a six-over-par 78 on the 6,030 yard layout that played longer due to the wet conditions.
Rosalie Tolentino shot 83, while Keiko Fukuda and Ai Chen rounded out the scores with a 92 and 93. Coleen McHugh’s 102 and Katie Moran’s 114 did not count in the scoring.
Individual honors went to Julianna Uhrik of Modesto after shooting a 77.
Four players qualified for a playoff after carding respective 78s.
Hannah Summerhays of Del Campo prevailed on the first hole of the playoff to earn second-place honors alone.
