Steve W. Cleary died Monday, April 28, 2003 in Gilroy. He was 53.

Born and raised in South California, Mr. Cleary received a bachelor of science degree from Cal Poly in 1976 and a master’s degree in agricultural management from the University of California, Davis in 1978. Over the years he was employed by Petoseed, Asgrow Seed and Northrup King.

After years as Senior Vice President for Sandoz Seed in Boise, Idaho, he founded Cleary and Associates, an agricultural consulting firm, and returned to Gilroy in 1997.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970.

He is survived by his wife, Linda S. Cleary of Gilroy; his mother, Sarah L. Cleary of Mulberry, Fla.; his brothers, Robert Cleary, Jr. of Escondido, Michael Cleary of Ontario and Timothy Cleary of Mary Esther, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert J. Cleary, Sr.

A private family memorial service was held today at St. Mary Church in Gilroy with a celebration of Mr. Cleary’s life taking place at the family home at Eagle Ridge.

Arrangements were under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy.

Memorials are preferred to the Stanford University Hospital for lymphoma research, in care of Medical Development, 770 Welch Rd., Suite 400, Palo Alto, CA 94304.
