Keeping the train out of Coe Park.

Dear Editor,

I am responding to the Aug. 31 editorial “Keeping the train out of Coe Park.” We should stop this boondoggle in it tracks!

The high-speed rail Web site projects over 60 million riders a year, that is twice the number of people in the state.

Let’s do the math: 60,000,000 riders per year divided by 365 days is 164,383 riders per day. The 164,383 riders per day divided by 24 hours per day is 6,849 riders per hour.

If each train caries 500 people, 6,849 divided by 500 is 14 trains per hour (rounded up from 13.7) That is seven trains per hour going north and seven trains per hour going south. That equals a train going south every 8.6 minutes and a train going north every 8.6 minutes with 500 people in each train all day every day.
