A fight at San Benito High School caused an involved student to fall unconscious before being airlifted to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, according to a sheriff’s official. The student later was released after arriving to the hospital.

The fight happened sometime around 8:30 a.m. at the high school and multiple students were involved, said Lt. Roy Iler with the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies have taken two students into custody for questioning in relation to the suspected involvement with the assault, he said. Iler also said that there could be one or two more juveniles that were involved.

“The victim had injuries and were considered serious at the time,” Iler said.

The victim was released shortly after his arrival at the medical center, and Iler said his parents were there upon his release. Iler said he does not know what caused the fight or what injuries led to the unconsciousness.

SBHS Principal Krystal Lomanto could not be reached immediately before publication.
