A Los Banos teen on the way to his first day of school at Gavilan Community College was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries after he pulled in front of a big rig on Highway 156 Monday, according to police.

The 17-year-old male was broadsided in his 1997 Chevy pick-up truck by a big rig when he turned onto Highway 152 from Highway 156 at approximately 1:15pm, according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver pulled out right in front of the semi, said CHP Officer Terry Mayes.

“He didn’t see him,” she said.

The juvenile had to be extracted from the truck and was life-flighted to San Jose Medical Center by CALSTAR with complaints of chest pain and a cut to his left arm, Mayes said.

The driver of the 2003 Freight Liner, 40-year-old William Batt, of Ogden, Utah, was not injured in the collision.

There was major damage to the left side of the juvenile’s pick-up truck and moderate damage to the front end of Batt’s semi, Mayes said.
