The home's residents were alerted to the fire by a smoke detector, and a man in the house got everyone out and called 911.

This time, though, the blaze destroyed the Mission Oaks mobile
home that also received extensive damage in the Oct. 3 fire.

The second blaze in two days that the Hollister Fire Department considers “suspicious” occurred at 11 p.m. Wednesday night when the same Mission Oaks Mobile Home Park single-wide trailer that caught on fire Oct. 3 burned again, this time resulting in “complete property loss,” Capt. Bob Martindelcampo told the Free Lance.

In the previous fire that left the structure uninhabitable, the five occupants of the Mission Oaks home escaped injury as they were alerted to the fire by a smoke detector, and a man in the house got everyone out and called 911. Fire hydrants were not functioning at that time, but were “operating perfectly” for this blaze, said Martindelcampo.

“As far as the fire is concerned, it completely destroyed the trailer this time,” he said. “The entire street was charged with smoke, making it difficult for us to get in.”

The fire captain said the entire back of the trailer was engulfed when crews arrived and he had the firefighters “hit the trailer from the front and back at the same time,” in what he termed a “pincher attack.”

“We got the fire out in 10 minutes, and I requested Capt. O’Connor to respond and investigate this as a suspicious fire,” Martindelcampo told the Free Lance.

O’Connor also is investigating a suspicious fire at the Gibson Station Gated Community where the clubhouse was destroyed by two separate blazes that occurred last week within six hours of one another.
