A sheriff’s official has confirmed authorities are investigating an allegation of a sexual relationship between a San Benito High School teacher and a student.

The sheriff’s office is treating the matter as an “ongoing investigation” after receiving a report from San Benito County Child Protective Services, while the high school also is investigating the allegation, Undersheriff Pat Turturici told the Free Lance.

Questions to the high school, including to Principal Krystal Lomanto, were referred to a human resources official who did not return phone calls from the Free Lance.

“There is an ongoing investigation,” Turturici said. “As far as I know, there is nothing that has been substantiated or proven. The high school is investigating the matter currently. We received a CPS report and we did a follow up investigation and we are still investigating.”

Hollister police officer Rosie Betanio, the department spokeswoman, also confirmed having an informational report from child protective services alleging an inappropriate sexual relationship between a teacher and a student at the school, but she noted how the sheriff’s office is handling the case. She said a particular teacher is named in the report, but stressed that he is not listed as a suspect or even a person of interest at this point.
