The San Benito County Board of Education will honor 16 local 2011 teachers of the year during a 6 p.m. ceremony April 27 at the San Benito County Board of Supervisors’ chambers on Fourth Street.

Winners will receive certificates of appreciation at the event, to which representatives of the Hollister City Council and Board of Supervisors have been invited, along with Assemblyman Luis Alejo’s and Congressman Sam Farr’s offices.

The Teacher of the Year recipients, with their schools in parenthesis, are:

Melanie Mahler (Aromas School); Joyce Medeiros (San Juan); Adrienne Salamida (Ladd Lane); Carolyn Acosta (R.O. Hardin); Kathleen Sharp (Marguerite Maze); John Tognetti (Rancho San Justo); Mary Langstaff (Gabilan Hills); Kathy Hudson (Sunnyslope); Marian Tobias (Cerra Vista); Julie Fontaine (Calaveras); Carol Gomez (Hollister Dual Language Academy); Tiffany Bianchi (Accelerated Achievement Academy); Kim Garcia (Hollister School District Educational Services Department); Julie Neff (North County Joint Union School District); Dr. Doug Achterman (San Benito High School); Gilbert Soza (San Benito County Office of Education).
