The San Benito High girls tennis team dropped both of its matches this week, falling to Presentation High 5-2 Tuesday and Carmel High 6-1 Thursday.
The two losses dropped the Balers to an 0-3 record a week before league play begins.
The Balers top two singles players, Ally Triolo and Audrey Marshall, did find success against Presentation, winning in straight sets.
Triolo won her match with a 6-4 game one victory and a 6-3 game two win. No. 2 singles player Aubrey Marshal posted wins of 6-2 and 6-0 over Presentation High.
But those were the only wins San Benito was able to muster during the non-league match.
Kelsey Slavich lost in two straight sets, but she sent the first game into a tiebreaker. Amanda Alvarez also dropped her singles match by scores of 6-2 and 6-3.
Doubles partners Annie Tobias and Makenzie Miguel dropped their match 6-2, 6-0. Gianna Brigantino and Bernice Bribiesca dropped their doubles match as well but in three sets.
The pair won the first game 6-4, but dropped the final two 7-6 and 10-8.
The Balers didn’t fair much better Thursday, loosing six of the seven games against Carmel. Only Amanda Alvarez could win – taking her match in two sets, 6-4 and 6-3.
Triolo and Marshall dropped both their matches in straight sets. Tobias and Miguel lost in two 6-0 sets.
Despite the week’s difficulties, head coach Ed Cecena sees the games as a learning experience for his young squad.
“These are good teams and tough games,” he said. “We are a little overmatched but it’s good. We will learn from this and only get better.”
The tennis squad will travel to Salinas on Tuesday to face North Salinas. The team will return to Hollister on Wednesday to face Live Oak.
