non-conference play.

The San Benito boys tennis team opened its 2010 season at Morgan Hill on Tuesday and narrowly defeated host Sobrato 4-3 in non-conference play.

No. 1 singles player Kyle Skinner defeated Sobrato’s Tyler Pecsok 7-5, 6-3, and Baler teammate Jacob Garcia followed suit with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Nick Garber.

Sobrato’s Zach Thomas won at the No. 3 singles position when he defeated Austin Pan 6-2, 6-3, and Bulldog Khuzema Khairullah topped Eric Johnson 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles, San Benito’s top team in Mike Jensen and Conner Bray upended Morgan Parks and Jacob Menpiola 6-0, 6-0, while the No. 3 team of Travis Mills and Mark Starritt defeated Praveen Siaha and Ravneet Grewal 6-2, 6-1.

San Benito’s No. 2 doubles team of Jacob Panger and Geoff Muzik lost to Mitchell Schenkenberg and Mitchell Pasek 6-4, 6-2.

The Balers are 1-0 overall on the season.

San Benito will have its home opener next Wednesday when Monterey will visit the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club at 3:30 p.m.
