After falling to Salinas last week — its first loss in five matches — the San Benito girls tennis rebounded on Thursday to defeat host Gilroy 7-0 in Tri-County Athletic League action.

The shutout victory improved the Balers to 6-4 overall, 4-1 in the TCAL.

The closest match came at No. 1 doubles, where San Benito’s Erin Glasspool and Alex Triolo are undefeated on the season. The Baler duo was up against Gilroy’s Melanie Morelos and Elaina Vasquez, and managed to defeat the Mustang pair in straight sets 7-5, 7-6 (8-6).

“That was the closest match of the day,” San Benito head coach Ed Cecena said.

The only other close match came at No. 3 doubles, where Balers Katherine Starks-Jones and Amanda Alvarez defeated Alejandra Pacheco and Megan Mezell 7-5, 6-4. Otherwise, every other match fell in San Benito’s favor, and rather convincingly as well.

Olivia Diaz and Alex Garcia beat Sami Holder and Lindsay Holt 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles, where as the Balers won 48 of the 62 games played in the singles category.

Hayley Barker trumped Jennifer Kwong 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Kristina Slavich did the same to Satthea Khay 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot; Audrey Marshall followed suit at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Joann Lo; and Kelsey Slavich rounded out the singles portion with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Amiti Munshi.
