Carmel Valley – San Benito had a disappointing end to its season Monday when the Haybalers finished fifth in the Tri-County Athletic League finals at Quail Lodge Resort & Golf Club.

Robby Sanchez led San Benito with an 88 over the 6,449-yard, par-71 course. Chad Stange was next at 93. Derrel Aton and Joey Amaral shot 95s, and Josh Greenwood had 101.

As has been the case all season, Palma ran away with the team competition. In fact, junior Sean Etow played with the No. 1s and shot 80 and it was only good enough for No. 5 for the Chieftains.

Freshman Matt Ogden played the back nine in even par and his 39-36-75 was the best score of the day. Cory Donnelly, the only Palma senior, followed at 76. Greg Classen and Kris Castella shot 77s as the Chieftains had a 385 total. Salinas was a distant second at 427.

The CCS championship will be May 9 at Rancho Canada West in Carmel Valley. Palma and Salinas will be the team representatives, and Gilroy’s Jordan Miller (80) and Kelly Cox (81), and Alvarez’s J.J. Sanchez (81) will go as the top three individuals.
