Teresa Reis Barros

Teresa Reis Barros, a hard-working woman of faith and family, died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at 7:10 P.M. on December 21, 2009. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Francisco (Frank) Machado Barros, daughters and sons-in-law Carmen and Roger Silva of Gilroy and Mary and Robert Barros-Bailey of Hidden Springs, ID, and grandchildren António and Manuel Silva and Teresa and Rachel Barros-Bailey.

Teresa joined her parents, Jose dos Reis Avila and Isabel dos Anjos Avila and siblings Eulalia, João, Simão, Jose, and Aurelio. She is survived by siblings Maria dos Reis Almada of San Jose, Filomena and husband Luiz Cardoso of Hanford, António and wife Germana Avila of Turlock, Luiz and wife Madalena Avila of Los Banos, Inez and husband Armando Avila of San Jose, sisters-in-law Adelia Silveira Avila of Merced and Maria Correia Avila of Oakdale, and many, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Born on São Jorge, Azores, Teresa immigrated to the Bay Area, via Montbrison, France, on February 12, 1969. She has lived in Gilroy since 1988.

Teresa was a member of several Portuguese organizations, including the UPPEC, SPRSI, Villa Street Portuguese Hall in Mountain View, the Portuguese Hall of Gilroy, and Our Lady of Fatima Society of Gilroy. She was a dedicated parishioner of St. Mary Parish in Gilroy.

A visitation will begin 11:30 A.M. Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, followed by a Rosary/Funeral Mass at 12:30 P.M. all at St. Mary Catholic Church, Gilroy. Entombment will follow at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, Gilroy.
