Thomas Lee Engebretson

Born in Wisconsin, Tom came to California in 1961.

Tom worked as a Union Drywall Finisher for 35 years. Once retired he enjoyed golfing, writing poetry, serving on as Gilroy’s Library Commissioner, and volunteering for the Democratic Party.

He braved his year long struggle with cancer, battling through treatments until the very end. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Colonel and Wilma Engebretson. He is survived by his loving wife Carol. His children Luzann and Mike Garcia, Cindy Batrez, and Freddy Batrez. His grandchildren Joshua and Veronica Batrez, Christopher Simmons, Danielle and Joe Vasquez, Nicole Garcia, Phillip Garcia, Kristen Garcia, Michael Kilmartin and Michelle Batrez and great-grandchildren Jordan Gaitan, Lucas Batrez and Marcus Vasquez. Also, survived by numerous brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Visitation will begin on Monday, May 16, 2011, at Habing Family Funeral Home, 129 4th St., Gilroy at 1:00 P.M. with the Vigil service starting at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 11 First St., Gilroy at 11:30 A.M. followed by entombment at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park.

Donations to St. Joseph’s Family Center would be preferred.
