The fans knew it. Their opponents knew it. But most importantly,
the team knew they would now be considered a local dynasty. With a
printout of three side-by-side trophies taped on their jerseys and
bat bags, the A’s celebrated their Babe Ruth Championship for the
third consecutive time.

The A’s got started early in the game and never looked back. The team manufactured four hits and two walks with six straight hitters reaching base to score three runs in the first inning.
The A’s hitters were slowed by the pitching change in the second inning, but the A’s proved to be too much for the 15-4 Rockies to handle.
The Athletics added a run in the third thanks to a walk, an error, and a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
The A’s scored four more runs in the fourth inning as errors plagued the Rockies allowing three unearned runs to push the A’s lead to eight.
The final score was 8-0. A’s pitcher, Justin Terrill, shut down the Rockies from the first pitch. Terrill pitched six shutout innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out seven Rockies hitters.
In the seventh and final inning of the championship game, the A’s brought in Dustin DiNapoli to close out the game and win the championship. The Rockies got two runners on, hoping to start a late rally, but a groundball double-play ended the rally and the game.
Teammates mobbed each other by first base as they jumped up and down and joked about winning the championship for the third time in as many years.
The A’s finished this season 19-1 and have been the strongest team in Babe Ruth the last three seasons. They lost only two games in 60 during the last three years.
Team moms brought water bottles and buckets of water out onto the field for the kids to celebrate by dousing each other and the coaches. One of the 15-year-old players brought out sheets of paper with a picture of three super bowl trophies and the word “Dynasty” printed on it – the same picture that the New England Patriots had when they won their third super bowl.
Head Coach, Steve Ferrenti, gathered the team and congratulated them on a job well done. He then passed out pride stickers to the kids to put on their helmets. Throughout the year the players were rewarded for excellent play with stickers.
Terrill was one of the kids that collected stickers after the game on Saturday to show how well he pitched during the game.
“It feels good to be a part of a dynasty,” Terrill said, after winning the game and getting his stickers.
Winning the championship left a good feeling for all the players and coaches on the team, but it had a special meaning for the 15-year-old players, who accomplished something that no other kids have done in the history of San Benito Babe Ruth. They won the championship three times in a row, every year that they were in the league.
David Alvarez was one of those 15-year-olds that enjoyed the three-peat the team completed.
“It really does feel like a dynasty,” Alvarez said. “This one means a lot more, though, because I played more.”
