Tom S. Mattart passed away after a short illness on June 10, 2007 in Gilroy. He was 94. He is survived by his wife Joyce Vieira Mattart of Gilroy, his niece Susan (Stuart) Mattart Smith of Salinas, stepfather of Richard Katen of San Juan Bautista and Robert Katen of Montana, step-grandfather of Jade, Coleman, Carson and Caleb Katen, and step-children Don, Judy, and GiGi Da Rosa. He was preceded in death by his daughter Judy, “The Lumber Lady” Mattart . Mr. Mattart was a Salinas resident for over 90 years; as a rancher he raised and trained quarter horses including ” Lucky Blanton”, a famous quarter horse. He moved to Gilroy in 2004. He was a member of the Cattleman’s Association, a gold card holder of the Professional Rodeo Association, and longtime director of the Salinas California Rodeo.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, June 15, 2007 at the South Valley Community Church, 8095 Kelton Drive, Gilroy, followed by Funeral Services at 3:00 P.M. Burial will be Monday, June 18, 2007 12:00 Noon at Garden of Memorial,768 Abbott Street, Salinas. Donations in his memory to the South Valley Community Church are preferred and appreciated.
