Lifelong county resident
Lifelong county resident Tony F. Matulich died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. He was 76.

Mr. Matulich was born in Hollister and attended Sacred Heart Convent and San Benito High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army, and had been a farmer since he was 16 years old. His family said working was his “hobby” and what he enjoyed doing the most – raising apricots, tomatoes, walnuts, lettuce and sugar beets.

Golf was Mr. Matulich’s other hobby; he was a member of Ridgemark Golf & Country Club and the Ridgemark Men’s Club. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Church, the San Benito County Farm Bureau and Hollister Lodge No. 1436 BPOE.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Matulich of Hollister; his children, Susan Colter, Toni Brady and her husband, Ed, and Mitch Matulich, all of Hollister; his sister, Margaret Hooper of Hollister; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Per Mr. Matulich’s wishes, arrangements were made for cremation with private inurnment at Calvary Cemetery. Friends are invited to a memorial service Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home.

Memorials are preferred to the Visiting Nurse Association or breast cancer research in care of the funeral home.
