1. MACE Cinco de Mayo dinner: The Mexican-American Committee on Education (MACE) of San Benito County 42nd annual Cinco de Mayo Scholarship Banquet is May 5, at San Juan Oaks Golf Club. The evening event will be emceed by Esmeralda Montenegro Owen, curator of marketing and community engagement for the National Steinbeck Center. The Banquet will include a program, dinner entertainment with Trio Borincano from San Jose, and dancing entertainment with Sonido con Sabor and deejay Sergio Flores. The event will pay tribute to the 2012 MACE Man and Woman of the year, Fernando Gonzalez, a former Hollister mayor and owner of True Value Hardware and Margie Barrios, San Benito County supervisor. Tickets are $50 per person; table reservations of eight people are encouraged and still available. No tickets will be sold at the door. 2. San Juan Cinco de Mayo: Celebrate Cinco de Mayo on May 4, at 5 p.m., with Mexican food, arts and crafts at San Juan School. There will be games for the entire family. This event is sponsored by the San Juan E.L.A.C. Committee. All proceeds to benefit San Juan students.
3. Indian Market: The 28th Annual California Indian Market will be held May 5 and 6, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the San Juan Elementary School soccer field, at The Alameda and Hwy. 156. The event will feature Native American, Cowboy, Western and wildlife arts and crafts. There will be a show featuring dancers celebrating Cinco de Mayo as well as food. 4. ‘Las Latinas’ art show opens: Galeria Tonantzin will host the “Las Latinas” art show during May, which will feature women artists of Latina heritage. Gallery hours are Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. There will be an artists’ reception May 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. Artists include Carmen Leon, Pat Zuniga, Patricia Rodriquez, Alejandra Oseguera and Helene C’de Baca. 5. Hot Wheels for Kids: The Hollister’s Intero Real Estate Services agents and staff are putting on Hot Wheels for Kids, a family event on May 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., 800 San Benito St., filled with music, performers, activities, and raffles. All proceeds benefit the Intero Foundation which supports local children in need and granted over $205,000 to non profits in the Bay Area in 2011.
