Hollister – San Benito’s toughest challenge of the postseason to date comes when the ‘Balers girls volleyball team travels to Grass Valley to face Nevada Union at 7pm today.
Nevada Union, the No. 2 seed in the CIF Northern California playoffs who were champions of the San Joaquin section, are fresh off an easy sweep over Lowell of San Francisco. The Miners enter play with a 32-6 record.
“It’s going to keep getting tougher and tougher,” San Benito coach Dean Askanas said. “Nevada Union is beatable, but it’s going to be a real test.”
Despite a tremendous performance in the sweep against Deer Valley in the first round of NorCals, the team is aware it needs to find another level.
“I still think we can step it up,” senior setter Chelsea Fowles said. “We need to play as well as we’ve ever played.”
The winner of tonight’s game will face the winner of the other NorCal semifinal between Foothill and Homestead for the right to play in the state title game on Dec. 2 at San Jose State University’s Event Center.
