Junior Crystal Prado will be the lone representative from Anzar at Saturday’s Central Coast Section Semifinals after she finished in second place in the long jump event at the Mission Trail Athletic League Championships last Friday.

Prado leapt 15-01 ½ to take the runner-up position behind Soledad junior Aisha Hildalgo, who jumped 15-03 ½. Both will advance to the CCS Semifinals, which will be held at the Garcia-Elder Sports Complex at Gilroy High.

Only the top two placers in each event at the MTAL Championships earned a CCS bid.

Senior distance runner Izzy Parra narrowly missed the cut in the 800-meter event last Friday in King City when he recorded a 2:07.63 to finish in fourth place. Second place went to York’s Will Shearer, who clocked a 2:05.03.

Anzar head coach Danny Lowell said there is a chance Parra could still advance to the CCS Semifinals, but only if two runners scratch from the event.

Meanwhile, Anzar freshman Valerie Quezada finished ninth in the 3,200 meters with a time of 13:49.36, while Sabrina Gonzales took eighth in the 800 in 2:52.22.

The girls 4×100 relay team also competed, and finished in fifth place with a time of 56.05.

The CCS Semifinals will take place Saturday in Gilroy, with field events starting at 9:30 a.m., and track events beginning at 11 a.m.

Prado’s long jump event is expected to start at approximately 10 a.m.

Only the top eight competitors in each event on Saturday will advance to the following week’s CCS Finals.
