field team still managed to dispatch visiting Everett Alvarez on
Thursday in Tri-County Athletic League action at Hollister’s Andy
Hardin Stadium.

Despite saving several of its top athletes for this weekend’s Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, the San Benito High track and field team still managed to dispatch visiting Everett Alvarez on Thursday in Tri-County Athletic League action at Hollister’s Andy Hardin Stadium.
“We took it kind of easy today,” San Benito coach Iran White said.
Nevertheless, it was a clean sweep for the Haybalers, who won the boys varsity dual 96-40, won the girls varsity dual 78-56, won the boys junior varsity match 75-37, and won the girls junior varsity match by a sizeable 94-8 cushion.
In the boys varsity dual, Frankie Martinez took first place in the discus with a 146-05, but it was Jake Hunter who set a personal record by approximately 20 feet; The junior thrower recorded a 120-09 ½ to finish in second place.
Senior Scott Medina, meanwhile, was first in the high jump at 6-0.
On the girls side, Michelle Duarte took first place in the 1,600 with a 5:36, while sophomore Melissa Castro was second in the high jump with a leap of 5-0.
A handful of members from the San Benito track and field team will travel to Palo Alto on Friday and Saturday for the Stanford Invitational.
The boys’ distance medley will race Friday at Cobb Track and Angell Field, with a start time of 4:10 p.m.
On Saturday, Frankie Martinez will compete in the boys’ discus at 9 a.m., while Sophie Coelho will compete in the pole vault, also at 9 a.m. Additionally, the boys’ 4×800 will race at 1:04 p.m., and the boys’ 4×400 will race at 4:52 p.m.
