Most of the families have farmed, ranched and lived on their property for four generations. They are the stewards of their land. They maintain clean wells, no overgrazing, fire breaks and overall “make sense” property management. There are property restrictions in place, i.e. limited building with slope density limitations, no ridgeline development, 1 percent growth and a dark sky ordinance.

The majority of the San Juan Foothills is already in 40 acre zoning. A small percentage of land is five acres and most is unbuildable. New zoning restrictions will increase pressures on the City of Hollister and San Juan Bautista through annexation to build more homes.

San Benito County ag industry generated over $240 million in crop value. Don’t be fooled and hand over this land to “outside” special interest groups. The foothills have remained in pristine condition for generations because the land owners manage it, not because it is a zoning requirement.

Trust your neighbors, ranchers and friends – they know the land.
