San Benito High School District trustees Tuesday accepted the resignation of Principal Todd Dearden—who had been under investigation for unspecified misconduct—and unanimously approved a resignation agreement that includes two months of salary and health benefits through June.
Dearden resigned in early December after the district had placed him on paid administrative leave in November pending an investigation. Trustees announced the agreement Tuesday after a three-hour closed session.
“The District has serious concerns about Employee’s performance and desires to terminate his employment at the earliest possible opportunity,” read the resignation agreement obtained by the Free Lance.
Dearden made $132,667 in annual salary and took home $603.03 per day while on paid administrative leave, according to records obtained from the director of human resources through a Freedom of Information Act request.
The resignation agreement document explained that the district’s human resources administrator will respond to any reference calls or other employment inquiries by disclosing only the employee’s dates of service in the district, teaching assignment, salary and benefits received, and the fact that he resigned from employment in the district while under investigation for misconduct.
