Hollister – A pair of ‘Balers made their future plans official Tuesday when volleyball players Chelsea Fowles and Morgan O’Laughlin signed their college letter-of-intents in a ceremony after practice.
Fowles, a senior setter, will play at Utah State University while O’Laughlin, a senior outside hitter, is heading to Bentley College, a Division II school in Waltham, Mass.
“With or without volleyball, they are going to be successful people because they’re bright and responsible,” San Benito coach Dean Askanas said. “They are going to be great ambassadors of the program.”
“We couldn’t have done this by ourselves,” Fowles said to her assembled teammates and family. “We’ve had a lot of help from our parents and all of our coaches and teammates.”
While both players were excited about their college plans, there was still a sense of focus as the team prepares for its Central Coast Section Division I semifinal game Thursday against Mt. Pleasant and a potential CCS title game Saturday.
“Even though we’re happy about signing and going onto college, we still have to finish this season and complete it and really show how well we can do in CCS and NorCals,” O’Laughlin said.
“We’re looking forward to making history this weekend,” Fowles added.
