Two New Yorkers were injured and taken to a Hollister hospital when their vehicle launched into a eucalyptus tree Tuesday morning on Highway 156, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Ronald Alleyne, 24, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Josh Miller, 28, of Wallkill, N.Y., were taken to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital after the crash at 10:05 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 156 east of Rocks Road, officers said.

Alleyne suffered moderate cuts to the right hand and right leg, according to the CHP.

Miller suffered a broken right arm and left knee cap, and cuts to his left hand, the CHP reported.

Alcohol was not suspected in the crash.

Officer Chris Armstrong, a public information officer for the Hollister-Gilroy area office of the CHP, said Alleyne was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt westbound on Highway 156. Alleyne made an unsafe turn, and car drove onto the median of the highway and lost control, the CHP reported. The car careened out of control, crossed the westbound lanes of Highway 156, hit an asphalt curb and went airborne, according to the CHP. While airborne, the car hit the eucalyptus tree, coming to rest on its wheels, the CHP said.

One westbound lane of Highway 156 was closed for 40 minutes while emergency crews provided medical aid to Alleyne and cleared the crash, officers said.
