Undersheriff Patrick Turturici of the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office has been accepted to attend the 238th session of the FBI National Academy. The academy is located in Quantico Virginia and lasts for 11 weeks.

“The National Academy will help me enhance my personal and professional development using my 25 years of law enforcement experience by providing relevant education and training and will increase my information networking in order to prepare for the increasingly complex and dynamic leadership role in the law enforcement community,” Turturici said in a press statement released by the office today.

Turturici is scheduled to take courses in forensic science for police administrators and managers, leadership for law enforcement, intelligence trends of violent street/prison gangs, labor laws, and solving ethical dilemmas in law enforcement, the statement reads.

Physical training is also a big part of the program, and participants are required to run up to nine miles at one time by the end of graduation.

The FBI National Academy has a waiting list of about five years and is the pinnacle of training for law enforcement, according to the statement. Only 1 percent of law enforcement officers get the opportunity to attend the FBI Academy worldwide.

Sheriff Curtis Hill was a graduate of the 158th FBI Academy.

“This is a great opportunity for Patrick to receive the best training that law enforcement has to offer World Wide,” Hill said in the statement. “The FBI Academy is very prestigious. It has an outstanding reputation for developing law enforcement leaders.”

Turturici leaves for Virginia on July 11 and will return on September 18.
