Paramedics prepare a woman who was involved in an accident on Airline Highway to be transported by ambulance to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital.

Two sport utility vehicles were involved in a head-on collision Friday morning near Airline Highway and Union Road, while the four people involved were transported to area hospitals.

The accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection near Fire Station No. 2 on the city’s south side. The vehicles were in opposite directions heading north and south on Airline Highway when the accident occurred, according to authorities.

A driver and one passenger were in each SUV. Two people were transported by Calstar to a regional hospital trauma center, while the two others were taken by ambulance to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital.

Hollister fire and Calfire were both on scene treating victims, while the vehicles were pulled into a crosswalk at the intersection as traffic was routed around the accident scene.

Fire Capt. Leo Alvarez, of the Hollister Fire Department, confirmed that the vehicles had been going north to south on Airline Highway when they collided. He could not confirm if the passengers and drivers were local residents or their identities. He could not comment on the extent of the injuries, but said that two people were taken to a trauma center for further assessment.
